Why Praise The Lord God?

The sun reminds us of the Glory of God
“When the praises go up, the blessings come down,” this is a true saying, for in the Bible when people praised God that is when God manifested Himself visibly. It was when Paul and Silas were praising God that an earthquake occurred and the doors of the prison were opened and the bonds of the prisoners came off (Acts 16:25-26).

Also in the Old Testament, when King Solomon was dedicating the temple, the singers and musicians praised God, and then the house was filled with a cloud. It is very observable that it was not when the priests offered sacrifices, but when they sang the praises of God, that God gave them this token of His favour; for the sacrifice of praise pleases the Lord better than that of an ox or bullock, Psalms 69:31. (Matthew’s Commentary).

In addition, it was when the whole group of people present were unanimous, when they were as one, to make one sound that The Holy God descended on the apostles when they met with one accord, Acts 2:1-4. This indicates that where there is unity the Lord commands the blessing.

Notice also that it was when they were lively and hearty, and lifted up their voice to praise the Lord, that the blessing of God’s presence occurred. This indicates that we serve God acceptably when we are enthusiastic in spirit serving him.

The blessing also occurred when they were, in their praises, celebrating the everlasting love, mercy and goodness of God. There is one saying often repeated in scripture, his love endures for ever (twenty-six times in one psalm, Psalms 136:1-26, and often elsewhere), so there is none more signally owned from heaven; for it was not the expression of some very spiritual songs that the priests were singing when the glory of God appeared, but this plain song, He is good, and His love endures for ever.

God’s goodness is His glory, and He is pleased when we give Him the glory of it.
